On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- grammatical and phonetic fundamental concepts;
- demonstrate, both orally and in writing, good knowledge and understanding of different aspects of the Spanish language, such as vocabulary, pronunciation, phonetics and linguistic structures;
- demonstrate basic knowledge of Spanish literature and ability to discuss and analyse it based on basic literary-critical concepts;
- account for the fundamental features of Spain's social structure, history, geography and cultures.
Course content
The course consists of four modules:
Basic linguistics
Systematic overview of general as well as Spanish grammar with practical exercises and overview of the bases in Spanish phonetics and pronunciation.
Literature and written production
Reading and analysis of modern literary Spanish-language text. Seminars and exercises in written production are included.
Culture and Society in Spain
Selected parts of Spanish culture and social life are covered, based on nonfiction and information and communication technological media. Written exercises and oral presentations are included.
Thematic module
This module is organised around a theme that may change from semester to semester.
Teaching and working methods
The working methods are lectures, learning supporting seminars, literature studies, group assignments and pronunciation exercises.
Examination
The course is examined through written examination, oral examination, and oral and written presentation. The examination is an individual effort.
