Completed Comparative Literature 1 with at least 22.5 HE credits approved (or the equivalent).
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to - demonstrate basic knowledge of the contemporary literary-critical theorising and methodology - demonstrate advanced literary-historical knowledge of a chosen literary-critical field - demonstrate developed ability to analyse and interpret literature of different time periods from different perspectives - account for the basic requirements of the literary-critical essay by incorporating these in a smaller essay - with good linguistic production and reasoning ability, carry a literary-critical discussion.
Course content
Module 1: Theories and Methods of Comparative Literature II, 6 HE credits
This module provides an overview of the literature-theoretical and methodological development of the 20th century and in particular the most recent decades.
Module 2: The Art of Writing II, 3 HE credits
This module constitutes an exercise in the bases of the academic writing and an advanced practical orientation in the shifting genres of literature.
Module 3: Thematic or Historical Specialisation I, 6 HE credits
This module constitutes an advanced study of a specific literary-critical research field or problem area, or of a specific period, movement, school of thought or genre.
Module 4: Essay, 9 HE credits
This module covers the bases of essay writing, an individual essay and a critical review assignment.
Module 5: Thematic or Historical Specialisation II, 6 HE credits
This module constitutes an advanced study of a specific literary-critical research field or problem area, or of a specific period, movement, school of thought or genre.
Teaching and working methods
The teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, group work, oral and written practical assignments, essay supervision in groups and independently, and requires the students to be well prepared through studying independently. The seminars, group work, practical assignments and group essay supervision are compulsory.
Examination
The modules are examined separately through written examinations, take-home examinations and/or continuous writing and group assignments, and through active participation in the compulsory parts. The examination of the essay course includes a compulsory essay and a compulsory critical review assignment . Students who have twice failed in the course or part of the course have the right to request another examiner at re-examination.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
