Course description

Sweden has a rich tradition of children's literature, with several esteemed and well-known authors. In particular, it has an internationally recognised children's book tradition, where many works have been translated into other languages and have thus had an international impact. The history of children's literature in Sweden is characterised by innovation in the area of picture books and other narrative works. In this course, you will study Swedish children's literature in German translation, focusing on a historical development from the early 20th century to contemporary children's literature, as well as on different thematic approaches with prominent themes. The course, taught in German, discusses works of children's literature on the basis of different discussion questions and approaches and explores the development and impact of Swedish children's literature in Germany.
