Entry requirements
For admission to the course, general entry requirements for higher education apply, as well as the specific entry regulations that apply to the Economics Programme, and the threshold requirements of the programme.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the students should be able to:
- identify issues within organisations that need to be studied further and formulate these as research issues
- design a study and thereby demonstrate methodological awareness
- collect and structure data that fits the issue defined by the research issues
- analyse the data based on the framework designed by the student
- draw conclusions from the analysis that can answer the set research issues
- evaluate other essays on the basis of being able to demonstrate strengths and weaknesses and give proposals on relevant improvements of these
Course content
The aim of the course is that the students should develop and increase their ability to independently and in a scholarly manner process business economic problems and in that way deepened their knowledge in business economic field. By studying a business economic problem via an empirical study, students are given an opportunity to convert their theoretical knowledge that they have obtained earlier in the education into practical action. The students should the choose, define and write an essay with an essay subject belonging to the field of business economics. The students may freely choose between writing a more traditional theoretical essay or carrying out an independent investigation for a company or an organisation in Sweden, within the EU or another place in the world. The essays are written in teams of 2-3 students and belongs to a peer learning group of normally six essays that all are supervised by the same supervisor.
Teaching and working methods
- Lectures and seminars in a large group
- Seminars and supervision in the peer learning groups
- Individual supervision of the essay team
- Essay-writing, reading, evaluating, presenting, defending and publicly discussing, in the essay team and in the peer learning group
In addition to this, the student should exercise self-study.
Examination
The completed essay should be presented and defended at a public final review. In the examination, active participation under the seminar series is also included.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
