Entry requirements
For admission to the course, the specific entry requirements that apply for admission to the Bachelor's Programme in Cognitive Science must be satisfied, and the course Cognitive Psychology (6 HE credits), or the equivalent, must be completed.
Intended learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- apply established theories and empiricism about human development in terms of social cognition
- account for how humans perceive and understand themselves and the world around them, for example attribution, attitudes
- account for how social cognition relates to behaviour, for example the relationship between cognitive and behavioural component in attitudes, and to personality, for example the relationship between certain types of attribution patterns and personality traits
Course content
The course aims to give the students an introduction to the psychological field of social cognition. The course covers the following aspects:
- Social-cognitive development
- How humans perceive and understand themselves and the world around them
- The relation between social-cognitive phenomena and behaviour
- The relation between social-cognitive phenomena and personality
Teaching and working methods
The teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, group assignment. The student is also expected to study independently, individually or in groups.
Examination
The course is examined through written examination and active participation in seminars and group assignments. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the course’s study guide.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
