Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- demonstrate advanced knowledge of theoretical analysis perspectives, normative approaches and empirical conditions in comparative policy and administration.
Course content
The course covers different analysis perspectives on comparative policy and administration. The starting point is a process-oriented perspective on policy, power and control. Attention is also paid to explicit criticism of policy analysis, for example from a gender, class and ethnicity perspective. Strong emphasis is placed on the students' abilities to independently apply and critically relate to analyses of policy and administration.
Teaching and working methods
The course includes lectures where the course contents are introduced and developed. The lectures complement the reading list. The seminars constitute a central part of the students' learning processes and provide an opportunity to reflect and, in groups, critically discuss, in order to further the students' approach and skills. The student is expected to be well prepared for the lectures and to have completed the seminar preparations according to the instructions in the course description. The student is expected to assimilate the reading list independently and/or in self-organised reading groups.
Parts that involve examination are compulsory.
Examination
The course is examined through a written individual examination and through active participation in seminar. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.
