and the entry requirements that apply for admission to the programme.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- communicate orally and in writing, independently and in groups, and reflect on communication processes,
- describe basic preconditions for knowledge development and learning, reflect on them and apply them as a student in the programme.
Course content
The course begins, in conjunction with the start of the programme, with a series of seminars on knowledge development, higher education and learning. The course is thereafter directed towards developing skills in written and oral communication. This parts covers some basics regarding rhetoric, information retrieval and finding, assessing and relating to various sources, as well as the writing process. Exercise is also included, in the form of written and oral communication with relation to courses in the programme.
Teaching and working methods
At a couple of occasions during the first academic year in the programme, the course is carried out with activities that, to some extent, are connected to the courses that the students follow. The teaching takes the form of exercises, lectures and seminars, which are carried out in small groups and require active participation. In addition to this, the student should work independently and/or in groups with the course contents through preparations for the discussions and group exercises, and through searching for and reading literature, and should also reflect and complete the written assignments.
Examination
The course is examined continuously through active participation in some of the compulsory seminars, including oral presentations and implementation of compulsory written assignments. The latter is completed individually. Detailed information on the examination and teaching can be found in the course study guide.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
Grades
Three-grade scale, U, G, VGOther information
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
