Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should, at a basic level, be able to:
- account for anthropological and social constructivist gender theories
- account for the importance of gender in people's daily life in different societies
- apply a socio-anthropological view on cross-cultural variations of sex and gender constructions.
Course content
The following is studied in the course
- anthropological and social constructivist gender theories
- how gender is constructed, expressed and affects people's lives, both in Swedish society and in other societies
- similarities and differences between different cultural gender constructions, and what possible inter- and cross-cultural variations that may exist.
Teaching and working methods
The course work consists of teaching in the form of lectures, seminars and work in groups. The student should actively and under own responsibility profit by the contents of the reading list and participate actively in the seminars.
Examination
The course is examined in part continuously within the scope of the teaching, and in part at the end of the course through an individual assignment, presented in writing.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
