Entry requirements
Bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen in one of the following areas:
- natural sciences,
- social sciences,
- humanities or
- engineering
- 15 ECTS credits passed in Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development or equivalent
- English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6)
- 30 credits passed from semesters 1 and 2 within the program including the courses Critical Perspectives on Sustainable Development (7.5 credits) and Environmental and Resource Use Challenges (7.5 credits)

Intended learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the student should, on an advanced, level be able to:
- prioritize and assess relevant information to perform a specific analytical assignment within environmental science and sustainable development
- systematically process, analyze and evaluate information collected within the framework of an analytical task and relate the analysis to relevant research
- plan and carry out an nalytical task in environmental science and sustainable development in collaboration with an organization and within given time and resource frames
- communicate the results and process of the analytical assignment orally and through text.
Course content
The course is conducted as an internship at an external organization within the field of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development. A central part of the course is to plan and carry out an analytical task relevant to the subject area, in collaboration with the external organization, which is analyzed and related to current research and to one's own experience and presented in the form of an individual independent work.
The contact person at the external organization shall, in consultation with the student, design the assignment and support the student during the internship period. The assignment must be approved by the course coordinator before the course starts. The student is responsible to find an external organization where the internship will be performed. The Internship can be performed in Sweden or abroad.
Teaching and working methods
Teaching and working methods include the internship as well as an oral presentation and a written final report. Supervision is provided by the external organization. In addition, students undertake self-studies.

Examination
The course is examined through:
- the completed internship, EC/PF
- an individual oral presentation, EC/PF
- an individual halftime written report, EC/PF
- an individual written report, EC.
For a final passing grade (E) on the course, Pass grade is required for the completed internship and the individual oral presentation, halftime report, as well as at least E for the individual written report. Higher grade will be based on the individual written report.

If special circumstances prevail, and if it is possible with consideration of the nature of the compulsory component, the examiner may decide to replace the compulsory component with another equivalent component.
If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it.
If the coordinator has recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.
An examiner may also decide that an adapted examination or alternative form of examination if the examiner assessed that special circumstances prevail, and the examiner assesses that it is possible while maintaining the objectives of the course.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
