Entry requirements

and that the students have completed the first two years of the Commercial and Business Law programmes (or the equivalent) and there have achieved at least 105 HE credits.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- in writing, examine commercial and business law issues and, independently and with a scholarly approach, formulate, examine, develop and analyse practically important commercial and business law problems, generally with a direct connection to the activities in a company or another organisation
- account for important specialisations in European legal scholarly method, namely systems theoretical/teleological method, analytical method and hermeneutic.

Course content

The thesis work should use and further advance the subject-theoretical and basic methodological knowledge that have been acquired in the previous studies in the Commercial and Business Law Programme, as well as the knowledge of European legal scholarly method that has been communicated via the theory module of the course.

Teaching and working methods

The theory module focuses heavily on independent studies, which are supported by seminars, where the individual student's own activity is emphasised. The thesis work is supported both by a number of work seminars and individual supervision of a supervisor particularly appointed for the thesis. The students should also study independently.

Examination

Examination of the theory module is arranged through fulfilment of seminar exercises. The essay is assessed at a seminar with faculty examiner(s). The examination also includes active participation in some essay seminars, including public discussion.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
