The first part of the course intends to introduce the student to the basic historiographical development of history during the 19th and 20th centuries. The second part consists of a reading course that aims to give the students advanced knowledge of the history of either an epoch, a region or a theme.
Teaching and working methods
Lectures, compulsory seminars, independent studies and processing of as well as reflection on literature are the main working methods of the course, along with thesis work under teacher supervision. The working methods of the course requires that the individual student acquires own empirical knowledge via archives (or the equivalent).
Examination
The course is examined in several different ways. Written examination, in the form of a take-home examination, and independent oral examination are included in the examination. The thesis is examined in seminars, which includes oral public discussion, in addition to defending the own thesis work. For the seminar activity, active compulsory attendance applies.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
Grades
Three-grade scale, U, G, VGOther information

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
