Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the students should, on an advanced level within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change, be able to:

• Independently identify and critically assess problems and possibilities in relation to transformatory work in a relevant organization, public and private workplace/business;
• Report and critically and reflexive analyze and assess demands, problems and possibilities in relation to transformatory work in a relavant workplace;
• Critically assess and reflect the potentials and limitations of their own knowledge and skills in terms of addressing specific work situations in relevant professional ways.

Course content

This course is based on giving the students the empirical experience of transformatory work in a relevant workplace and thereby enabling the students to test and put their theoretical skills into practical strategies and tools regarding how to work with aspects such as gender mainstreaming, diversity and equal opportunities in specific settings. With an intersectional perspective as point of departure the students are given a lens through which organizational structure as well as the practical outcomes of everyday practices, power relations etc. can be viewed and critically analyzed and in the long run possibly altered and hereby the students are enable to identify possible gaps of knowledge relevant for at future work life. The examination expecting a self-reflective written report also teaches the students to perform introspective analyses.  

The students are responsible themselves for finding their own internships by contacting relevant organizations and the internship must be approved by the program director/ course coordinator. 

The internship can be fulfilled in Sweden or abroad.

Teaching and working methods

The teaching will be online. The internship are to correspond to at least 3 weeks of full time work (120 h ), a written report and seminars. Apart from that the student will perform self-studies.

Examination

• A written report, grade EC 
• Active participation in an online seminar, grade EC 
• A peer-review at the online seminar, grade EC

For a passed final grade, an E is required for the individually written report and a Pass on other examination parts. 
Higher grades are based on the individually written report.

If special circumstances prevail, and if it is possible with consideration of the nature of the compulsory component, the examiner may decide to replace the compulsory component with another equivalent component.

If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it.

If the coordinator has recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.

An examiner may also decide that an adapted examination or alternative form of examination if the examiner assessed that special circumstances prevail, and the examiner assesses that it is possible while maintaining the objectives of the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

If special circumstances prevail, the vice-chancellor may in a special decision specify the preconditions for temporary deviations from this course syllabus, and delegate the right to take such decisions.
