Entry requirements

Bachelor’s degree with at least 30 ECTS credits in Gender Studies or equivalent qualifications are required. 

Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the students should, on an advanced level within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change, be able to:

  • account for, explain and relate to methodologies described in the course;
  • define, compare, and assess the methods and theories comprised in the course;
  • apply appropriate methodologies in an independent study.

 

Course content

The course includes:

  • methodological debates within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change;
  • methods for designing, carrying out and writing a pilot study relevant for the field, such as, for example, writing, interviewing, dialoguing and theatre performance as methods of inquiry, use of online tools as a method of inquiry, textual and visual analysis, ethnographic methods, policy analysis and action research methods, as well as selected quantitative methods.

Teaching and working methods

Lectures followed by discussions take place in the online classroom. Knowledge is further reinforced during online-seminars, -workshops and/or other learning activities. In between online-seminars and -lectures students study the course literature independently and communicate with each other online in peer learning groups, supervised by student tutors. The course includes that the students carry out a pilot study of a self-selected topic within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change. The completion of the pilot study is carried out under supervision by teachers and tutors.

Examination

The course is examined through active participation in online-seminars and -workshops, through continuous written individual assignments, submitted online, and through a pilot study, which is to be documented in a written report, submitted online.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
