Entry requirements

Bachelor’s degree with at least 30 ECTS credits in Gender Studies or equivalent qualifications are required. 

Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the students should, on an advanced level within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change, be able to:

• critically account for existing research and assess their own career paths  within the field; 
• identify and critically evaluate relevant examples of career paths in different sectors of society;
• apply transformatory work related to gender and intersectionality. 
• critically reflect on, account for and assess terms for effective and appropriate ways to intervene and communicate in academic, professional and societal contexts.

Course content

The course provides overview knowledge as regards to: 

• three fields of study – intersectional gender mainstreaming, feminsit pedagogy and intersections gender didactics, and science communication and critical media interventions;
• key career paths within these fields;
• various ways to intervene within these areas, which will be presented and applied; 
• methods, such as creative and academic writing, forum theatre and other oral forms in academic and other professional or generally broad public contexts. 

Teaching and working methods

Lectures followed by discussions take place in the online classroom. Knowledge is further reinforced during online-seminars, –workshops and/or other learning activities. In between online-seminars, -lectures and/or other learning activities students study the course literature independently and communicate with each other online in peer learning groups, supervised by student tutors.  In addition the teaching is also based on workshop formats and takes place on campus. To prepare for the workshops, students shall study the course literature independently. The students shall also communicate with each other in peer learning groups, supervised by student tutors. Under supervision, students construct scenarios relating to career paths in the field, and try-out different communication skills in exercises, related to the scenarios.

Examination

The course is examined through active participation in face-to-face workshops on campus, which includes participation in role-play assignments, as well as via written assignments. A summarizing individual written assignment will be accomplished as a final assignment. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the study guide and the key information document.

If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it. If the coordinator has instead recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. 

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
