Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should, on an advanced level, be able to:
- critically account for key theoretical concepts and issues in the field of feminist environmental humanities and make comparisons between a selection of theoretical perspectives in the field
- critically account for and analyse the relation between the research fields of gender studies and environmental humanities
- apply selected theoretical perspectives and concepts from the course in an individual written assignment on a topic relevant for the field of feminist environmental humanities
Course content
The course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of environmental humanities, with an emphasis on feminist environmental humanities. The course provides av overview of the development of the field and key perspectives, focusing especially on themes related to gender and social justice. Key concepts in the course include ecofeminism, posthumanism and postcolonial environmental critique. The course applies an intersectional gender perspective.
Teaching and working methods
The teaching consists of pre-recorded lectures, online seminars, and group assignments. In addition, the student should conduct self-study.
Examination
The examination consists of:
- active participation in online seminars, grading: EC
- written assignments, grading: EC
- individual written assignment, grading: EC
The grade for the individual written assignment determines the final grade for the course.

If special circumstances prevail, and if it is possible with consideration of the nature of the compulsory component, the examiner may decide to replace the compulsory component with another equivalent component.
If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it. If the coordinator has instead recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
