Entry requirements

For admission to the course, the student must be registered on the Programme in Cultural Studies, and have completed 3 semesters in Cultural Studies and achieved passing grades in courses comprising 90 HE credits. In addition, the student should accomplished Basic placement, 15 credits.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- use experiences and understanding of qualified employment in the cultural sector
- implement the theoretical knowledge in practical work within the cultural field,
- use the ability to self-reflect and an understanding of the own role in the work process

Course content

The student should, for 10 weeks, work full time under prevalent conditions and relations in a workplace within the cultural sector that the student has arranged independently. There, the student should carry out tasks according to the placement plan: a project, an investigative assignment, a study, or corresponding, that is of benefit to the current workplace.
- The tasks assigned must have a level of complexity that is high enough for the student to have an opportunity to implement the acquired theoretical knowledge.
- The workplace should be a part of the cultural sector.
- The placement may be located abroad. During the placement, the student should have access to a supervisor appointed by the workplace. The supervisor should establish a placement plan in consultation with the student and provide relevant supervision for the practical tasks during the work. The plan should state, as clearly as possible, the type of tasks that the student should carry out and during what period. This is submitted to the programme coordinator, who based on the plan decides if the location satisfies the criteria that apply to the placement. The placement plan should therefore constitute a decision-making basis for the programme coordinator and should therefore show that the tasks that are included in the placement satisfy the above mention requirements on purpose and contents. The plan should be an instrument for the work that can be revised and supplemented during the placement. If extensive changes are made in relation to the original placement plan after the placement has begun, the programme coordinator should be contacted.

Teaching and working methods

The working methods mainly comprise independently carrying out the tasks that the placement should comprise according to the placement plan.

Examination

The course is examined through a report that should be submitted to the programme coordinator for assessment at the end of the placement. It should contain a summarising account of the workplace and tasks. The practical training report should also contain an in-depth reflection on the role and importance of the placement for the own education, and on how the knowledge acquired in the programme has been implemented during the placement. In addition, it should contain an advanced reflection on the own role in the work process. A reasonable extent of the practical training report is 6-10 pages.
The supervisor at the workplace should at the end of the placement period write a certificate of completed placement.
Approved practical training report along with a certificate from the supervisor on the workplace of completed placement is required to pass the course.

If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it. If the coordinator has instead recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
