Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should have acquired
- knowledge of argumentation analysis and semantic concepts,
- knowledge of philosophy of science in the humanities,
- knowledge of theories and methods of history and art history,
- knowledge of the historical development of art history and historiography,
- knowledge of concept formation in art history and history,
- the ability to apply argumentation analysis,
- the ability to apply source evaluation and critical reading of philosophical and cultural-scientific texts
- awareness of and ability to relate to scientific theoretical positions.
Course content
Philosophy, 7 HE credits: This module covers argumentation analysis and language-philosophical distinctions. Concepts that facilitate analysis and informed choices are presented. The module also covers philosophy of science in the humanities with an emphasis on concept formation and scientific forms of reasoning.
History, 1.5 HE credits: This module covers the bases in the development of historiography, the concept of historical view, and bases in historical theory and method, for example source evaluation.
Art History and Visual Communication, 1.5 HE credits: This module provides an overview of art history as a subject, its basic theorising, methodology and nomenclature.
Teaching and working methods
The studies are carried out full-time and primarily take the form of independent literature studies and working with written assignments and written seminar preparations. The course also contains lectures, seminars and group work. Seminars and group work are prepared individually or in groups.
Examination
The course is examined through written assignments, and active compulsory attendance and oral presentations at seminars. Students who do not participate in the final examination seminar of the philosophy module will be examined through a written examination.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
