Entry requirements

For admission to the College Course, applicants must meet the general eligibility requirements, with the exception of the requirements in Swedish. Passing the final test of the Intensive Introductory Course in Swedish for Beginners and Guest students, 7,5 ECTS credits (or the equivalent) is however a requirement.The course is only offered to applicants who do not have Swedish as their mother tongue.

Intended learning outcomes

The whole course is intended for non-Swedish-speaking students who have completed their upper secondary school abroad and who plan to study at university level in Sweden. The aim of the whole course is that students should become proficient in Swedish, and acquire a knowledge of Swedish social and cultural studies as well as gain familiarity with teaching and examinations at a Swedish university/college of higher education. The entire course package will meet the special requirements for Swedish (SvB) after a student has passed the final examination after semester 2 (spring semester).

The entire course package will also lead to eligibility in social studies for course A (ShA).

Course content

The aim of semester 1 is that students should acquire a basic knowledge of Swedish and develop their language proficiency as well as gaining familiarity with Swedish society and the Swedish system of education. They should acquire a rapidly progressing knowledge of essential basic grammar as well as acquire a functional and relevant vocabulary.

The semester begins with an introduction, which will provide information about practical matters, the Swedish system of higher education, cultural encounters, etc as well as practical help and awareness of how it is to live, study and function socially in Sweden. There will also be a survey of the study techniques common in Swedish higher education, including exercises on how to work in groups.

Teaching and working methods

Tuition comprises whole-class and group teaching. Attendance is compulsory.

Examination

The course is examined by means of continual assessment and active participation in class is required. There is also a final written exam.

Other information

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
