- account for the decisions and documents that regulate the Church of Sweden's faith and life today
- account for different piety traditions that have characterised and still influence the faith and life interpretations of people,

- present the thought world of different types of piety and demonstrate how these can interact with personal experiences and motives and with liturgical and theological traditions,
- account for some modern problem complexes in The Church of Sweden and the formal handling of these.

Course content

The course consists of two main parts that are read in parallel. The first module is focused in the organisation, activities and basic documents of the Church of Sweden. It comprises:
- The Church of Sweden's organisation
- The Church of Sweden's confessions of faith
- The liturgy books and adopted ecumenical documents
- Modern problem complexes
The second module focuses on The Church of Sweden's piety. It comprises:
- Piety traditions that have put their touch on and still influence the ecclesiastical life in different parts of the country,
- The importance of different piety traditions for the worship, ecclesiastical teaching, deaconry and other congregational activity.

Teaching and working methods

The student's work mainly consists of independent literature studies, where the student, among other things, practises analysing and processing subject matter from different sources. In addition, lectures, compulsory seminars and written and oral presentations may occur, as well as film screenings and study visits. All students are expected to actively and constructively participate in seminars.

Examination

The course is examined both through compulsory seminar assignments (that are solved independent or in groups) and through written assignments. Active participation in the seminars.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Other information

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
