Entry requirements

Two years of undergraduate studies, one of which must be in relevant disciplines or programmes. Documented knowledge of English equivalent to "Engelska B" is required, or an internationel proficiency test, e.g. TOEFL, minimum score 550/213.

Intended learning outcomes

The aim of the course is identification, analysis and application of problem solutions on coastal management problems.

Course content

The coastal zones belong to the areas under the highest exploitation pressure in the world. The coastal zone is also an important ecological interface with high attraction values for many natural species and human activities. 50 per cent of the world populatuion live in the coastal zone, 80 per cent of the aquatic biomass is produced in the coastal seas. Increased pressure comes from urban development, harbour terminals, the offshore industry, boating, sports, leisure homes, aquaculture, landfills and waste deposition. The empirical examples are related to the Baltic Sea and it tributary areas. The teaching consits of lectures, seminars, field studeis and excursions related to the Baltic.
