A1XEntry requirements
At least a passing grade in the Ethics thesis course. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for theoretical and methodological issues linked to the subject of ethics and its relation to other subjects of religious studies,
- discuss research and scholarship in central parts of the subject of ethics,
- independently formulate an ethical issue, and independently in scholarly form process the issue by means of the theory and method traditions of the subject,
Course content
The course in ethics may be focused on issues in moral philosophy, theological ethics or applied ethics
The course consists of three modules with the following parts:
Theories and Methods of Ethics, 7.5 HE credits
The course covers theories and methods of religious studies with a specific focus on theories and methods of ethics.
In-depth studies, 7.5 HE credits
The course comprises advanced studies of an ethical specialisation, for example moral philosophy, theological ethics or applied ethics.
Thesis, 15 HE credits
With a clear connection to the theory and method traditions of the subject, an ethical issue is formulated and covered independently. The results are presented in writing as an academic paper and defended at an essay seminar.
Teaching and working methods
The teaching mainly takes the form of independent writing and literature studies. The studies are also supported by teaching, in the form of supervision, seminars and a presentation seminar. In addition to this, the student should study independently.
Examination
The course is examined through assessment of an essay and through defence of the essay at seminar discussion as well as a critical review of another essay. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.
