For admission to the course, the specific entry regulations that apply for admission to the master's education in Cognitive Science must be satisfied.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should, at a basic level, be able to

  • -account for the central questions and research areas of cognitive science
  •  account for the different research methods that are used within cognitive science
  • -account for cognitive-scientific implementations within human-technology interaction.

Course content

Covered in the course are

  • fundamental concepts in philosophy of mind, cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, linguistics, anthropology and neuroscience
  • the physical symbol system hypothesis
  • cognition as information processing
  • alternative views, such as situated and distributed cognition, embodied cognition and sub-symbolic cognition
  • examples of cognitive-scientific implementations within human-technology interaction

Teaching and working methods

The teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars and laboratory sessions. The student is expected to study independently, individually or in groups.

Examination

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
