For admission to the course, the specific entry requirements that apply to the Bachelor's Programme in Cognitive Science must be satisfied, and the courses Cognitive Psychology and Research Methodology and Statistics, or the equivalent, must be completed.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- design, carry out, analyse and interpret the results of cognitive psychology experiments
- report experiments in writing and in a scholarly way,
- discuss and explain choice of theory, method, analytical methods and interpretation of results for an experiment,
- summarise, review critically and give constructive feedback on reports,
- use computers for control of experiments and for collection and analysis of data.

Course content

The contents of the course are focused on
- experimental control with computers, ways to control exposure time and measuring responses,
- random functions,
- instructions to test subjects,
- measuring cognitive processes through error-rate and response time,
- report writing according to templates,
- public discussion and defence of reports.

Teaching and working methods

Teaching takes the form of lectures, laboratory sessions and seminars. The student is expected to study independently, individually or in groups.

Examination

The course is examined through written assignments.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
