On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- use an experimental approach to using wool in creative work
- demonstrate knowledge of and use different methods of design in order to provide a basis for a personal idiom
- present and design product and product ideas in practice, which unite knowledge of materials, technical expertise and personal expression in working with wool
- be familiar with cultural history linked to wool and discuss fields of use related to our own time
- reflect on the creative process and present and analyse own and others' products in the field of wool.
Course content
The course contains practical and experimental work with wool in different forms where technical expertise and personal expression are united. Included in the studies of wool are the physics, chemistry, maintenance and care of wool, as well as cultural history with an emphasis on human use of wool. Also included are exercises with colour, form and composition. The course includes product analysis, where the concept of quality is discussed and wool's fields of use in economic and ecological contexts. The students discuss the creative process and wool as a means of expression.
Teaching and working methods
The working methods are student active where own creative work, studies and theoretical studies are integrated. The teaching takes the form of practical work, supervision, lectures, literature studies, study visits, seminars and presentations, both independently and in groups. Tasks are assigned during the course, and should be presented visually and orally at the course meetings.
Examination
The student's practical work is examined through oral and visual presentations. The literature is examined at a literature seminar. Also included is writing an individual discussion paper based on the contents of the course and the own development.
