Course content
The course covers creative experimental work with an emphasis on shape and colour and reflections on experiences of shape and colour. The student experiments with different surface treatment and colouring techniques to achieve alternative modes of expression. The course covers laboratory and examining design methods, sketching and imagery for planning individual work. The student applies decor, composition and pattern exercises linked to products. The student is introduced to using reflection and a critical approach. The course includes exercises and assignments with presentation techniques that give the students opportunity to reflect on how the own knowledge can be translated into future products. The course addresses the meaning of the concepts of handicraft, arts and crafts, crafts and domestic crafts, and design. Also important to the course is analysis of the concept of quality as well as different conceptions of this as a basis for object analysis. A documentation assignment is given in connection with the study visit.
Teaching and working methods
The working methods vary, but have in common that they are student active and to a great extent project-based, in accordance with the educational platform of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, GrundGUIDE. The teaching takes the form of lectures, supervision, seminars and production work in studio. The creative work includes analyses, documentations and presentations. The students carry out individual practical work that is presented and analysed in groups in the form of seminars. Various information and communication technical equipment is used in the course. A study visit that is relevant to the contents of the course is made during the course. The course is completed with a working seminar with presentation and exhibition.
Examination
The products created are examined through presentation and publishing, as well as through submission and critical oral review at a seminar. Literature is processed in seminars. These seminars are compulsory and require active participation. Also included are written presentations of the study visit and oral presentations in groups of the individually practically implemented tasks, as well as reflections on the results concerning both process and product.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
