Entry requirements

The general entry requirements apply for the course, and the student should have passing grades in programme courses comprising at least 30 HE credits.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- independently plan and carry out an experimental work in two and three dimensions,
- develop product ideas in different techniques and materials, aesthetically, physically and chemically
- describe the relationship between the own idiom and technical implementation,
- visualise and communicate product ideas, virtually and in reality
- be familiar with and account for concepts in design and colouring,
- present, describe, analyse and make quality assessments of the own work and the work of others,
- apply a scholarly approach to the process and products of the creative work.

Course content

The course contains practical and experimental work with different techniques and materials. The student experiments with colours, shapes, designs, surfaces/structures, volumes, functions, techniques and materials in different applications. The student selects which techniques and materials to include. Analyses, written documentations and presentations are included on the basis of a chosen subject area. Also included is research methodology with a focus on handicraft and its processes. The course also covers the exhibition as a medium for communication. The exhibition as a meeting with audiences and activities is highlighted and examined. The course includes presentation techniques that give the students the opportunity to reflect on how one's own knowledge can be translated into future products.

Teaching and working methods

The working methods vary, but have in common that they are student active and to a great extent project-based, in accordance with the educational platform of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, GrundGUIDE.
The course has a problem-oriented working method, where lectures, independent work, reference group work and supervised teaching are included. The teaching takes the form of regular meetings, lectures, seminars, literature studies, and workshop and production work in studio. The literature studies are integrated in practical assignments and are established by the supervisor. A considerable part of the course consists of an individual project, where the results are presented in a combination of products and exhibition. The student decides the focus of the work after having consulted the supervisor. The students organise and carry out a field study or study visit relevant to the contents of the course. The individual work contains continuous working seminars with presentation and critical oral review. Tasks are assigned during the course that are to be presented independently and in groups, orally, in writing and in exhibition form. Various information and communication technical equipment is used in the course.

Examination

The products created are examined through presentation and publishing, as well as through submission and critical oral review at a seminar. The examination also includes giving a critical oral review of the work of others. These seminars are compulsory and require active participation. Also included are written and oral presentations in groups, and individual practical assignments, as well as reflections on the results, both in terms of process and product.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Grades
