Course content
The course covers a general perspective on the emergence of western cultural history within different subject areas. With this as a background, the course includes laboratory work with an individually chosen materiel. The object is in focus for the studies and experiments in the area of analyses, documentations and presentations. Also included is research methodology with a focus on handicraft and its processes. The exhibition as a meeting with audiences and activities is highlighted and examined. The course includes presentation techniques that give the students the opportunity to reflect on how one's own knowledge can be translated into future products. The course also contains a placement period comprising two weeks.
Teaching and working methods
The working methods vary, but have in common that they are student active and to a great extent project-based, in accordance with the educational platform of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, GrundGUIDE. The course has a problem-oriented working method, where lectures, individual assignments, reference group work, placement and supervised teaching are included. The teaching takes the form of regular meetings, lectures and seminars, study visits, literature studies, workshops and production work in studio. The literature is studied individually, and is processed in seminars and in the creative work. Various information and communication technical equipment is used in the course. The students organise and carry out field studies or study visit relevant to the contents of the course. The individual work contains continuous working seminars with presentation and critical oral review. Tasks are assigned during the course, which are presented individually and in groups, orally, in writing and in exhibition form.
Examination
The individual project work is examined through presentation and publishing, and through submission and public discussion at a seminar. Also included are written and oral presentations in groups, and individual practical assignments, as well as reflections on the results, both in terms of process and product. Compulsory attendance at examining parts.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
