Entry requirements
Completed Economics, basic course comprising 30 ECTS credits with at least 15 ECTS credits approved, or equivalent. Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6.
Intended learning outcomes
After completion of the course the student should be able to:
- Implement basic health economics calculations/analyzes with the most relevant method based on the question asked.
- Interpret and critically evaluate health economics evaluations.
- Analyze and integrate economic, political and ethical policy issues related to health care.

The course covers:
- Basic welfare theory and concepts of health economic evaluations.
- Cost analysis.
- Cost-effectiveness Analysis
- Cost benefits Analysis
- Decision Theory
- Measuring quality of life
- Priorites in health care
- Ethical implications of health economic evaluations
- Justice Theories related to health care
- Ownership
- Paternalism
Teaching and working methods
The course is taught through lectures, seminars, assignments and self-study. Language of instruction: English.
Examination
The examination consists of a written examination and ongoing assignments during the course. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
