Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- account for the diversity and the unity in the contents of the New Testament writings,
- demonstrate knowledge of the historical creation environment of the New Testament writings and theological main ideas and of the questions around the Jesus figure,

- carry out independent exegesis on academic basis by means of exegetical aids.

Course content

The course consists of two modules with the following parts:

New Testament Chronology and Theology (6 HE credits)

- New Testament chronology and New Testament theology
- the Jesus figure (and, for student who only read this non-linguistic course in the New Testament in addition to linguistic courses in the Old Testament, also questions around St. Paul and the primitive Christianity)

Text and Commentary Studies (9 HE credits)

- text and commentary studies of New Testament text in translation
- application of exegetical methods in an own exegetics assignment

Teaching and working methods

Depending on the number of participants, the course will be given as supervised independent study or as a taught course with lectures and seminars. In both cases, the student's work mainly consists of independent text and commentary studies, and application of exegetical methods in the own exegetical assignment. The seminar sessions are compulsory and in all cases imply work that should be carried out in advance.

Examination

The course is examined through oral or written examination and through presentation of a smaller, written exegetical assignment. Participation in the seminars is compulsory.

Grades

Three-grade scale, U, G, VG

The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
