Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

- Account for how theory formation and educational traditions connected to the outdoor environment from a learning perspective are put in relation to natural and social sciences.
- Use a thematic and interdisciplinary working method, where the student focuses on the importance of location for learning by means of outdoor educational didactics.
- Interpret, describe and explain the traces of natural forces and human activity in different landscape types.
- Use relevant literature and source material for such a landscape interpretation.

Course content

The contents mainly consist of the didactic questions of outdoor education and the theory and practice of outdoor education. The encounter between the visitor, the location and the marker in theory and practice is highlighted. The value of using the information provided by the landscape in teaching and communication is emphasised. By means of subject integrated working methods, understanding of the natural and cultural environments of the native environment is developed.

Teaching and working methods

The working methods comprise joint field trips, lectures, seminars, independent studies and own practical work. As the course is given as a distance course, the teaching is given at course dates with overnight stay. The course is carried out in such a way that the experiences and knowledge of both men and women are acknowledged and developed.

Examination

The course is examined continuously through a written, individual reflection assignment linked to the activity of each course date and to the course literature. The final assignment consists of an educational development work, which is presented orally and in writing.
