Introduction

The Preparatory Year in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Linköping University, is intended for individuals who lack the mathematics and natural science qualifications required for admission to undergraduate programmes leading to degrees in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech therapist or Nursing. Through preparatory credits in mathematics and natural sciences, students acquire the subject-specific knowledge needed for further studies in these undergraduate programmes.

The Preparatory Year also aims to develop students' ability to undertake university-level studies through introductory courses in health sciences and academic studies that carry higher education credits (HE credits).

Successful completion of the Preparatory Year guarantees a place in one of the above mentioned undergraduate programmes at Linköping University, subject to the conditions specified under the section “Särskild information” (Special Information).

The Preparatory Year in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Linköping University, comprises two semesters of full-time study, of which 30 credits are preparatory credits regulated under a specific ordinance (SFS 2018:1519). The remaining 30 credits consist of higher education credits.

This qualifying programme does not affect the applicant’s upper secondary school merit rating. Courses that generate preparatory credits (fup) cannot be included in a university degree.
