Intended learning outcomes
To provide the student with qualifications needed to identify and discuss the archetypes of furniture history and furthermore adopt the elements in solving an actual problem.
After completing the course the student should be able to:
- describe the archetypes as regards techniques and materials as well as stylistic and symbolic aspects
- reflect upon technically, socially and culturally related factors and how these have affected the design of some of our fundamental furniture archetypes
- measure, reconstruct, document and correctly describe an archetypical piece of furniture and design and produce a new object based on these observations
- evaluate and analyze materials, construction and coating as regards functional requirements, durability and sustainibility
- in a critical way evaluate the importance of individual preferences and how these relates to the general achetypical features in design history
- observe, examine and evaluate the fact that some furniture have become archetypical while others have not
